Historic Highlight
I don’t believe in serendipity. I believe some how all things are connected. Exploring those threads that tie our humanity together are fascinating. John Aster put into motion an inside joke when he commissioned Maxfield Parrish to paint the back bar of the St. Regis hotel. I can only imagine what it meant to be a gentleman in the 1930’s. Clearly it meant giving up your seat on a lifeboat to women and children, while the band played and the Titanic sank. I’m grateful for the opportunity to work with Arnold Quinn and Lawrence and Judy Cutler in producing this prototype of the first reproduction of Parish’s Old King Cole. After all these years, it still stops traffic and invites conversation. Those conversations are new threads that bind us together in a common culture.
